Source BioScience welcomes NHS guidelines on cervical cancer screening

Source BioScience has welcomed the publication of guidance on how its BD FocalPoint technology will be implemented into NHS cervical cancer screening.

NHS Cancer Screening Programmes has produced guidelines on how the automated imaging solution will be rolled out across the UK, with numerous trusts having expressed an interest in it.

Cervical Screening Wales (CSW) will become the first scheme in Britain to implement the technology on January 1st 2012, allowing it to reduce its laboratory workload, meet its deadlines and eliminate the need to expand its workforce.

The initial agreement to provide BD FocalPoint to CSW will be worth around 600,000 pounds to Source BioScience up to July 2015.

Dr Nick Ash, the company's chief executive officer, said: "Source BioScience is now able to provide customers with a unique and complete solution for cervical cancer screening from sample collection, processing, imaging and diagnostic testing, including HPV testing."

Last month, the company announced the launch of a new overnight DNA sequencing and data analysis service for research teams in and around Oxford.
