Biogen Idec outlines 2012 goals after strong 2011
Biogen Idec has outlined its objectives for further growth in 2012 after seeing strong annual growth during 2011.
The pharmaceutical company's total revenues for the 12 months hit $5 billion (3.17 billion pounds), up by seven percent compared to 2010, thanks to strong sales of key products such as Tysabri and Avonex.
In 2012, the firm will be seeking to further support these products' growth, while it will also be making efforts to accelerate the clinical development of new drugs such as BG-12 and dexpramipexole.
Dr George Scangos, the company's chief executive officer, said: "Our success in 2011 gives us a strong position on which to build … We will focus on the continued growth and leadership of our marketed products and the advancement of our strong pipeline."
Earlier this week, the company reinforced its corporate leadership through the appointment of Kenneth DiPietro as its new executive vice-president for human resources.
