B Braun announces Nutrichem acquisition
B Braun has announced plans to acquire Nutrichem, a developer of nutritional products and supplements for patients with special dietary requirements.
The German-based company, which was previously owned by the Japanese corporation SSP, is being acquired in order to strengthen B Braun's presence in the enteral nutrition and clinical nutrition fields.
Employing around 285 people, Nutrichem is involved in the development, production, filling and packaging of nutritional offerings, and has created products for B Braun in the past on an original equipment manufacturing basis.
B Braun notes that in the past, it has only been able to create and manufacture parenteral nutrition products in-house, whereas the takeover allows it to address the needs of the entire clinical nutrition sector.
Nutrichem will continue to operate independently of its new parent group, which means there will be no significant functional changes resulting from the acquisition.
This comes after it was announced in September 2011 that B Braun also acquired the radiofrequency electrosurgical instrument specialist Aragon Surgical, via its Aesculap division.
