Abbott’s Architect tacrolimus assay shows medication monitoring benefits

17th February 2012

Abbott has published data from a new clinical study that showcases the benefits of its Architect tacrolimus assay in offering accurate medication monitoring following solid organ transplantations.

The device offers a standardised method of assessing tacrolimus concentration in the blood, an essential process as the calcineurin inhibitor is often prescribed to patients to help prevent organ rejection.

In Abbott's new study, the Architect assay was compared to a candidate reference method exact-matching isotope-dilution mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry assays and another immunoassay.

It was shown that Abbott's device was able to deliver reliable results across a number of different locations.

Dr Gregory Maine, co-author and associate research fellow for diagnostics at Abbott, said: "The Architect tacrolimus assay addresses an unmet clinical need for consistent site-to-site patient results by providing uniform instrumentation, test kits, calibrators and controls across the world."

Last month, the company reported its 2011 financial results, highlighting its double-digit year-on-year growth in terms of earnings per share.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801296050-ADNFCR
