Elsevier launches SciVerse Hub expert discovery tool

Elsevier has augmented the functionality of its SciVerse Hub research platform with the introduction of a new expert identification and discovery tool.

The Direct2Experts Expert Discovery Application connects the database to the company's Direct2Experts online network of scientific researchers, in order to help scientists seek out potential collaborators.

Using this new tool, those searching for abstracts and full-text articles from multiple sources directly within SciVerse Hub will be automatically linked to researchers who have conducted similar studies, thus streamlining workflows.

This will help to forge connections between researchers at institutions using SciVal Experts and other research networking tools, such as Harvard's Profiles Research Networking Software, Stanford Community Academic Profiles and the University of Iowa's Loki.

Rafael Sidi, vice-president for the application marketplace and developer network at Elsevier, said: "We look forward to continued opportunities to develop collaboration tools, in partnership with research institutions that will improve research outcomes."

Earlier this month, the company was presented with six prizes at the 2011 Prose Awards, including best multidiscipline platform for SciVerse Hub.
