Abbott’s Starlims acquires new distribution partners
Abbott's Starlims Technologies business unit has acquired a number of long-term distribution partners as it seeks to strengthen its international business capabilities.
The company has purchased two privately held Spanish businesses and a Dutch company, which will now operate as Starlims Iberica and Starlims Netherlands respectively, while also acquiring Israeli distribution partner Starlims Israel.
In addition, the firm will take control of French distributor Varilab, while also setting up a new unit called Starlims Germany to offer further support for its European customers.
Following these strategic moves, Abbott's Starlims unit will have more than 100 laboratory information management system engineers serving the European region.
Isaac Friedman, head of Abbott's Starlims business, said: "The successful completion of these transactions represents Abbott's commitment to invest in and accelerate the growth of Starlims' core business."
Last month, it was announced that Abbott's Plex-ID DNA analysis system is to be implemented by the University of North Texas Health Science Center, one of the leading forensics facilities in the US.
