Bausch and Lomb acquire new eye treatment technology

7th March 2012

Bausch and Lomb has announced the acquisition of a new platform technology for use in treating the posterior segment diseases of the eye.

The company believes the newly acquired technology can help patients to avoid the need for ongoing pharmacological interventions and will be working with leading retinal specialists to make these innovations as widely available as possible.

A proof of principle research phase has already been completed for the promising new tools, with further trials to be conducted before they can be made commercially available.

Dr Cal Roberts, chief medical officer at Bausch and Lomb, said: "The addition of this novel technology to our development and research pipeline reflects Bausch and Lomb's strong commitment to patients with retinal diseases and the doctors who treat them."

Last week, the company announced the launch of a new range of PureVision 2 HD For Astigmatism contact lenses spanning a variety of additional powers and specifications.

The first wave of new products has been introduced this month, with further additions to make their debut in May 2012.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801311970-ADNFCR
