Elsevier’s SciVerse Scopus aids Kyoto University

Elsevier has highlighted the benefits that its multidisciplinary abstract and citation database SciVerse Scopus has provided to Kyoto University, one of Japan's leading educational facilities.

The university utilised the database to carry out a recently completed study on research activities and competencies at universities across Japan, covering fields such as life, medical and information sciences, as well as humanities and mechanical engineering.

Its aim was to determine the impact of the Japanese government's 21st Century Centre of Excellence funding scheme, as well as finding areas in which the initiative is proving particularly successful.

Lead researcher Dr Takanori Ida praised SciVerse Scopus for facilitating this research, noting that its author IDs system made it easy to find and compare data on the relevant researchers with speed and accuracy.

Niels Weertman, vice-president for Elsevier's SciVal business unit, said: "We will continue to develop research performance and evaluation platforms that universities and institutions can rely on to measure output."

This comes after Elsevier introduced a new Direct2Experts Expert Discovery Application for SciVerse Hub last month, making it easier for scientists to track down potential collaborative partners.
