GlaxoSmithKline reports CSR highlights for 2011

GlaxoSmithKline has published its annual report highlighting the progress it has made on corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects during 2011.

Its latest Corporate Responsibility Report has underlined key achievements such as the various commitments made by the firm to aiding global vaccination projects, with approval of three important new therapies achieved last year.

Charitable donations were maintained at 204 million pounds despite economic pressures, while greenhouse gas emissions were cut by 5.3 percent and water use was slashed by 6.9 percent.

Other positive developments include the implementation of a new incentive compensation system in the US, which bases rewards on quality of service rather than sales quotas.

GlaxoSmithKline chief executive officer Sir Andrew Witty said: "We are not complacent and we will continue to challenge ourselves in the coming months and years to do all we can to deliver for patients and society."

This comes after Reuters reported earlier this month that GlaxoSmithKline has agreed to provide the GAVI Alliance with bulk supplies of its rotavirus vaccine Rotarix for a reduced price.
