Bayer HealthCare launches diabetes expertise sharing scheme
Bayer HealthCare has announced the launch of a new international project aimed at fostering collaboration in the development of diabetes management expertise.
The Excellence across Borders programme is designed to spread successful strategies in diabetes care by exchanging knowhow and experience among specialists and healthcare representatives from nations in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
A symposium held in Dubai earlier this month was the first to take place under this new framework, with the eventual aim being to hold two symposia each year.
By exchanging different ideas and approaches shaped by local conditions, it is hoped that further headway can be achieved in the treatment of a condition that poses a rising threat to global health and economic systems.
Gerd-Walter Rohm, expert in diabetes care for EMEA at Bayer HealthCare, said: "Different political and economic systems as well as cultural habits influence patients' behaviour and affect the individual therapy outcome."
Last month, the company predicted that sales of Bayer HealthCare products will pass the 20 billion euro (16.52 billion pounds) mark by 2014.
