Janssen reports positive data from new Incivo study
Janssen has published positive clinical data from a new trial of Incivo at the 2012 annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver.
Data from new phase III retrospective sub-analyses has shown that Incivo is able to deliver similar sustained virologic response (SVR) rates among genotype-1 chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients regardless of ribavirin dose reduction.
Superior performance was noted among patients receiving Incivo plus peginterferon alfa and ribavirin (PR) than among those being treated with PR alone, while the timing, duration and extent of dose reductions also did not affect efficacy.
This is an important discovery, as reduction of ribavirin dosage is vital for the management of treatment-related anaemia among HCV patients.
Jim Witek, senior medical director at Janssen, said: "Janssen remains dedicated to improving treatment options and outcomes for patients with HCV."
This comes after the treatment received a final draft recommendation from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in the UK last month.
