Sigma-Aldrich reports growth in first quarter

30th April 2012

Sigma-Aldrich has reported positive business growth in the first quarter of 2012, with sales advancing by five percent year on year to $665 million (409.63 million pounds).

During Q1 2012, sales grew organically by three percent, with the company's research and SAFC fine chemicals divisions expanding by four percent and one percent respectively, while acquisitions contributed four percent to sales growth.

These represent the best quarterly results in the company's history, with Sigma-Aldrich set to continue pursuing its growth strategy over the course of the year as it completes its takeover of Research Organics.

Expectations for organic sales growth across the whole year remain in the mid-single digit range, bearing in mind various business costs and macroeconomic trends.

Sigma-Aldrich president and chief executive officer Rakesh Sachdev said: "Our plan is to continue prudent cost control without sacrificing a commitment to longer-term growth initiatives as we deal with market uncertainties. Our management team remains fully engaged and committed to deliver this performance."

Earlier this month, the company announced the launch of its new CHOZN Platform, a system that accelerates the recombinant protein drug development process.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801352808-ADNFCR
