Qiagen announces AmniSure International takeover

9th May 2012

Qiagen has announced the acquisition of AmniSure International, a leading manufacturer of point-of-need assays in the obstetrics and gynaecology field.

The privately-owned Boston business markets the AmniSure assay, which is used for determining whether a pregnant patient is at risk of suffering from a rupture of the foetal membrane, thus causing fluid leaks from the amniotic sac.

AmniSure allows clinicians to quickly and reliably diagnose a condition that is a widespread cause of premature delivery and complications in emergency room, birthing centre or clinical settings.

It is hoped that Qiagen's takeover will enable more widespread adoption of the technology in the US and international markets.

Peer Schatz, chief executive officer of Qiagen, said: "This very accurate diagnostic test contributes significant value in the management of pregnancy and adds to Qiagen's portfolio of tests and in particular for the obstetrics and gynaecology market."

Last month, the company announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2012, during which it experienced year-on-year sales growth of 12 percent.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801359694-ADNFCR
