Kimberly-Clark provides update on sustainability initiatives

Kimberly-Clark has published its 2011 sustainability report, showcasing its efforts to pursue corporate social responsibility goals last year.

According to the report, the company sourced 99.9 percent of its fibre from suppliers certified by sustainable forestry practices last year, while generating 13 percent of net sales from environmentally innovative products and recording no workplace deaths.

Meanwhile, its European Personal Care business facilities sent zero manufacturing waste to landfill and water replenishment projects were initiated in India, Israel, Colombia and Spain.

These and other achievements highlighted by the company will help Kimberly-Clark achieve the goals laid out by its Sustainability 2015 strategy framework of People, Planet and Products, which was introduced last year.

Suhas Apte, vice-president for global sustainability at Kimberly-Clark, said: "Our progress in 2011 reflects the hard work of our employees worldwide in helping to integrate sustainable business practices into everything we do."

Earlier this month, the company was presented with the 2012 Circle of Excellence award from the Distribution Business Management Association, thanks to the strength of its Sustainability 2015 efforts.
