Eurogentec introduces new polyclonal antibody

Eurogentec has announced the launch of a new polyclonal antibody that specifically detects certain proteins.

The powerful Anti-O-GlcNAc antibody has been developed to "study the role of O-GlcNAc in cell physiology" and "was raised against a synthetic peptide harboring a Serine-O-GlcNAc".

It is specifically designed for the detection of proteins containing Ser-O-GlcNAc and Thr-O-GlcNAc.

A reversible post-translational modification taking place in a range of nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins, ß-O-linked N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) consists of N-acetylglucosamine on serine and threonine residues being added to the protein and O-GlcNAc-ylation is involved in various cell functions.

The role of O-GlcNAc-ylation is currently unknown, but the modification can compete with phosphorylation and the new polyclonal antibody is intended to assist with research in this field by providing the ability to detect its presence in proteins.
