Hospira Healthcare reports benefits of IV clinical integration

29th May 2012

Hospira Healthcare has declared that IV clinical integration of infusion pumps and electronic health records has a range of positive benefits for the medical sector.

The company reports the process delivers not only financial savings, but also enhanced safety and efficiency for patients.

Releasing a snapshot of the results of a study into such integration, the international injectable drugs and infusion technologies specialist noted it can provide almost real-time sharing of patient and infusion data to prevent IV medication errors.

The information was published to mark Healthcare Technology Management Week alongside an infographic illustrating the functionality and benefits provided by Hospira MedNet safety software and a video looking at the newly-enhanced Symbiq infusion pump.

Hospira vice-president of medication management systems in the US Richard Nevin stated: "The IV clinical integration of infusion pumps with electronic health record systems has been shown to decrease the time it takes for nurses to start a new infusion by at least 27 percent."

In its first quarter results for 2012, Hospira recently revealed they were in line with expectations, with the firm continuing to be "focused on advancing [its] remediation efforts" and expanding its global operations.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801373576-ADNFCR
