Covidien launches Endo GIA Radial Reload device

1st June 2012

Covidien has announced the introduction of its new Endo GIA Radial Reload with Tri-Staple technology, which aims to revolutionise low anterior resection (LAR) procedures among colorectal surgery patients.

The uniquely-shaped device allows surgeons to cut and securely staple colon tissue deeper into the pelvis than currently available alternatives, while maintaining good visualisation and appropriate distal margins.

By providing deeper access to the lower pelvis, sphincter salvage procedures can be performed more easily, thus helping patients avoid the need for a colostomy bag.

The Radial Reload allows for an open or laparoscopic approach through a hand port or similar access device and has been designed based on extensive customer feedback.

Mike Primavera, director of product development for surgical solutions at Covidien, said: "Covidien is setting new standards for access, manoeuvrability and staple line security in LAR procedures with this innovative new design for the Radial Reload."

Last month, the company introduced another new product called the Halo 90 Ultra Ablation Catheter, for use in the treatment of Barrett's oesophagus.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801377499-ADNFCR
