Janssen’s intravenous Simponi shows benefits for RA patients

Janssen has published new phase III clinical trial data showcasing the benefits its new intravenous formulation of Simponi can provide to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.

Results for the study showed that intravenous Simponi delivered significant improvements in signs, symptoms and disease activity among patients with active moderate to severe RA.

Nearly 60 percent of subjects receiving Simponi IV achieved a 20 percent improvement in arthritis signs and symptoms at week 14, thus meeting the primary efficacy endpoint of the trial.

Further data from the study demonstrated that this formulation of Simponi can also deliver significant benefits in relieving RA-associated fatigue.

Study investigator Dr Rene Westhovens, professor at the department of rheumatology at KU Leuven in Belgium, said: "The data shows the significant benefits of Simponi in improving the pain, stiffness and swelling associated with rheumatoid arthritis when administered intravenously."

Last month, the company was granted a recommendation from the UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence for Zytiga, its clinically proven prostate cancer therapy.
