Smith and Nephew launches new foot and ankle plating systems

Smith and Nephew is launching two new plating systems for foot and ankle surgery after introducing them at the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society's annual meeting.

The first of these is the VLP Foot Percutaneous Calcaneus Plating System, a product specifically designed for use in the percutaneous treatment of calcaneus fractures that can help to reduce post-operative soft tissue problems.

It is complemented by the Peri-Loc Ankle Fusion Plating System, which includes four anatomic plate designs in order to allow surgeons to perform both tibiotalar and tibiotalocalcaneal fusions through multiple approaches.

The products are part of the company's ALL28 foot and ankle portfolio and will be available across Europe, North America and Australia.

Mark Waugh, vice-president for Smith and Nephew's global extremities and limb restoration business unit, said: "Through the ALL28 portfolio, we are able to provide foot and ankle surgeons a complete line of solutions for treating fractures, deformities, arthritis and soft tissue injuries."

This comes after the firm launched its hysteroscopic morcellator system Truclear 5.0 in the US earlier this month.
