Source BioScience launches Illumina MiSeq sequencing service

Source BioScience has announced the launch of a new extended next-generation sequencing service in the UK.

The service utilises the Illumina MiSeq platform, establishing Source as the only commercial provider of this technology in Britain, and offers great potential to healthcare companies carrying out cancer research.

Source is aiming the service at the middle ground of clients between its existing overnight sequencing offering and its ultra-high-throughput HiSeq service, allowing it to reach an expanded client base.

It will also aid the company's own efforts to develop an integrated genetic test to personalise the diagnosis and treatment of cancers.

Dr Nick Ash, chief executive officer of Source BioScience, said: "The MiSeq offers rapid turnaround times for next-generation sequencing, enabling scientists to access an increasing range of sequencing applications, which will attract new customers to our LifeSciences services."

The company's LifeSciences division has already been able to establish a leading position in the European DNA sequencing sector, according to announcements made at Source's most recent annual general meeting.
