Medtronic launches updated CD Horizon Solera System

Medtronic has begun the global introduction of version 5.5/6.0 of its CD Horizon Solera System for spinal fixation.

This new version of the popular system offers a number of upgrades compared to the version 4.75 offering launched last year, such as the ability to customise the spinal construct to match patients' needs.

It allows for a variety of targeted applications and offers an implant system that accommodates two diameter spinal rods and an array of materials.

The CD Horizon Solera System is also designed to work with the Powerease System, a powered instrument setup for drilling, tapping and driving screws and working end attachments during spinal surgery.

Doug King, company senior vice-president and president of Medtronic Spinal, said: "By leveraging the full CD Horizon Solera System, spinal pathologies and patient factors can be treated with less inventory than the typical spinal implant system."

Last week, the company announced the launch of Surtavi, a new global clinical trial evaluating its CoreValve system among patients with severe aortic stenosis who are at intermediate risk of undergoing open-heart surgery.
