Leica Microsystems launches SCN400 2.2 scanning platform

Leica Microsystems has introduced its new SCN400 2.2 high-performance platform for digital pathology scanning.

Combining batch processing in both brightfield and multichannel fluorescence with user-friendly workflows, the device aims to provide a flexible whole slide scanning solution, with support for five fluorescence channels per slide.

Its capacity for multiple filter cubes enables up to seven distinct fluorescence channels to be utilised across a scanning batch, allowing it to be used across the full variety of samples generated by research and pharmaceutical laboratories.

The device joins Leica's Total Digital Pathology portfolio, which provides complete end-to-end solutions for the scanning, management and analysis of digital pathology images.

Dr Donal O'Shea, head of digital pathology at Leica Microsystems, said: "Providing a streamlined workflow for tissue-based research that facilitates quantitative analysis and flexible solutions for multi-user laboratories is a continued focus for Leica."

Earlier this month, the company was presented with an R&D 100 Award from the industry publication R&D Magazine for its Leica SR GSD super-resolution microscope.
