Cook Medical reports positive data from Zilver PTX trial

Cook Medical has reported previously unreleased positive data from a clinical trial of Zilver PTX, its line of paclitaxel-eluting peripheral vascular stents.

The company presented new data at the Japanese Association of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics showing that Zilver PTX is able to deliver freedom from target lesion revascularisation (TLR) among 83 percent of patients after 36 months.

This compares favourably to the control group using optimal percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and bare metal stents, with 70.2 percent of these patients experiencing freedom from TLR after three years.

Currently, the device is available in more than 45 countries including Japan, though it remains under review by the Food and Drug Administration in the US and is not available for sale in the territory.

The study in question involved a total of 479 patients, with paid consultant Dr Gary Ansel acting as principal investigator, as well as announcing the new results at the Japanese conference.
