Medtronic receives CE Mark for Viva/Brava CRT-D devices

Medtronic has been granted European CE Mark approval for Viva/Brava, its new range of medical devices for the treatment of heart failure patients.

The new family of cardiac resynchronisation therapy with defibrillation (CRT-D) devices feature an algorithm called AdaptivCRT, which allow the devices to preserve normal heart rhythms and continuously adapt to individual patient needs.

In doing so, response rates to therapy are significantly improved compared to traditional CRT solutions, a trend that has been demonstrated in clinical trials.

Other features of the Viva/Brava portfolio include their reduced skin pressure, added longevity, SmartShock Technology and OptiVol 2.0 Fluid Status Monitoring.

Pat Mackin, president of the cardiac rhythm disease management business and senior vice-president at Medtronic, said: "The Viva/Brava family of devices offers clinicians and their patients a new approach to CRT treatment, providing therapeutic benefit and individualised care for patients."

Last month, the company introduced an upgraded version of its CD Horizon Solera System for spinal fixation, offering new customisation and compatibility options.
