GlaxoSmithKline’s Aquafresh brand publishes kids’ oral hygiene study

11th September 2012

GlaxoSmithKline's Aquafresh dental products brand has published data from a new survey that sheds light on the poor standard of oral hygiene among British children.

According to the company's survey, more than one million British youngsters under the age of five have already had at least two fillings, while 47 percent of children under 12 have been told they have dental decay.

Moreover, 24 percent of mothers say their offspring brush their teeth only once a day, while two percent say their kids do not brush their teeth at all.

Other concerning statistics revealed by the company show that six percent of children have never visited a dentist, with 12 percent of youngsters lying to avoid having to brush.

Surrey dentist Dr Tina Tanna said: "Dental decay can lead to complications such as tooth loss, so it's vital kids learn to brush properly to prevent later issues with their adult teeth."

These findings coincide with Oral Health Month, a public awareness event taking place throughout September organised by Colgate and the British Dental Association.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801447131-ADNFCR
