Covidien unveils new Sonicision and iDrive products at ACS 2012
Covidien has introduced a pair of innovative new medical devices at this week's American College of Surgeons (ACS) clinical congress.
The company has unveiled the Sonicision ultrasonic dissection device, which is the first cordless unit of its kind and can be utilised in a wide range of procedures, including general, bariatric, colorectal, gynaecological and urological operations.
Additionally, the firm is showcasing the iDrive Ultra powered stapling system, a reusable endostapler that delivers an unprecedented level of precision.
Both of these instruments will give surgeons increased freedom of movement and flexibility in positioning devices, thus allowing procedures to be carried out more effectively.
Bryan Hanson, president of Covidien's surgical solutions division, said: "Sonicision and iDrive Ultra are unique, first in the industry and will have a significant impact on the way surgeries are performed."
Last month, the company announced the launch of its new Viance Crossing Catheter and Enteer Re-entry System in the US, Europe and other selected international markets.
