Boston Scientific launches Vercise DBS system for Parkinson’s

Boston Scientific has launched its new Vercise deep brain stimulation (DBS) system in Europe after receiving CE Mark approval for the device.

Vercise is designed for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and is the first and only commercially available DBS system to incorporate multiple independent current control options.

It is able to provide physicians fine control of stimulation, while also allowing the patient to experience comfort, convenience and minimal side effects.

The first commercial implant of the Vercise DBS system was performed by a team at the University Clinic Wurzburg.

Maulik Nanavaty, senior vice-president and president of Boston Scientific's neuromodulation division, said: "Vercise DBS is the only system on the market able to finely control stimulation with multiple independent current control. This unique technology underscores our commitment to improving patients' lives."

Last month, the company announced the acquisition of BridgePoint Medical, a deal that will expand its portfolio of devices for the treatment of coronary chronic total occlusions.
