Shionogi-ViiV announces dolutegravir registration

Shionogi-ViiV Healthcare has announced positive findings from a phase III trial for the initial regulatory filings of investigational integrase inhibitor dolutegravir.

Data collated from the study into the compound, which is aiming to provide relief for individuals affected by HIV, will be the subject of future presentations at scientific meetings.

The findings – used with previously disclosed results from the Spring-2 and Single studies in treatment-naive patients – support the company's plans to commence international regulatory submissions for dolutegravir before the end of 2012.

Dolutegravir is an investigational integrase inhibitor currently in development by Shionogi-ViiV, which was established in 2009 by GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer, for the treatment of HIV for use in combination with other HIV medicines.

The medication is being evaluated for safety and efficacy without an additional booster drug being added to the regimen by blocking the replication of the cells by preventing the viral DNA from integrating into the genetic material of human immune cells.
