Bayer HealthCare reports continued growth in third quarter

Bayer HealthCare has experienced double-digit growth in the third quarter of 2012, according to parent company Bayer's latest financial report.

The healthcare division generated 4.72 billion euros (3.81 billion pounds) in sales during the three-month period, up by 12.4 percent year over year, with both pharmaceuticals and consumer health contributing to this expansion.

North America and emerging markets such as China saw particularly strong performances during the quarter, while drugs such as Xarelto, Mirena, Glucobay and Kogenate were highlighted as positive contributors.

Bayer HealthCare contributed the largest proportion of the Bayer group's encouraging quarterly sales total of 9.67 billion euros.

Dr Marijn Dekkers, chairman of Bayer's management board, said: "Our current and future success and our growth are based on our new and innovative products in the life sciences. Our primary goal is therefore to grow organically on the basis of our innovative capability."

Earlier this month, the company agreed a new collaboration with Evotec, which will see them carrying out joint research into endometriosis therapies.
