Boehringer Ingelheim and BaroFold agree technology alliance
Boehringer Ingelheim is to gain access to innovative biopharmaceutical production technology through a new alliance with BaroFold.
The companies have agreed a non-exclusive technology and commercial license option deal that will see Boehringer Ingelheim acquiring a laboratory-scale reactor of BaroFold's Pressure Enabled Manufacturing Technology (PreEMT).
It will be installed at Boehringer Ingelheim's microbial facility in Vienna and is designed for use in high-pressure protein refolding, a technique that will prove invaluable in the development of various new drugs.
This latest alliance builds on the work the companies have been doing together over the last 18 months and comes as part of Boehringer Ingelheim's ongoing efforts to integrate cutting-edge technologies into its processes.
Georg Klima, executive director for process science at Boehringer Ingelheim in Austria, said: "Innovation is what sets Boehringer Ingelheim apart from other biopharmaceutical and contract manufacturing companies and we look forward to realising significant success with BaroFold's technology."
Earlier this month, the company's biopharmaceutical contract manufacturing business announced a new deal with Molecular Partners that will see the latter firm receiving support on its proprietary DARPin pipeline.
