GE Healthcare scientist shares insights with UK politicians

GE Healthcare has been able to share key insights on cell therapy, science and policymaking with UK politicians through a unique pairing scheme run by the Royal Society.

The initiative saw Dr Michelle Janas, a lead scientist at GE Healthcare's Cardiff laboratories, visiting Jenny Willott MP at the House of Commons for a week in order to learn about her work.

During the seven-day period, Dr Janas attended a House of Commons science and technology committee meeting and prime minister's question time, as well as speaking with government chief scientific advisor Professor Sir John Beddington.

She was able to engage with political figures on key scientific research issues, a cause that will be furthered when Ms Willott makes her reciprocal visit to GE Healthcare.

Dr Janas said: "It is exciting to be sharing my scientific experience with Ms Willott MP and I'm keen to further my understanding of how science policy is developed and communicated to the wider community."

Earlier this month, the company purchased the US-based ultrasound product manufacturer U-Systems, developer of the Somo-V Automated Breast Ultrasound system.
