Boston Scientific reports positive trial results for OffRoad catheter system

Boston Scientific's OffRoad Re-Entry Catheter System has demonstrated its excellent performance in a new clinical trial called Re-Route.

The device was shown to facilitate the treatment of complete blockages in the major arteries that supply blood to the legs, which are known as chronic total occlusions (CTOs) and are often associated with peripheral artery disease.

Investigators were successful in navigating around challenging CTOs in the enrolled trial patients 84.8 percent of the time using the OffRoad device, meaning the pre-specified trial goals were exceeded.

OffRoad has already been approved for sale in Europe, with US regulatory clearance still pending.

Jeff Mirviss, president of peripheral interventions at Boston Scientific, said: "Peripheral artery disease can be debilitating and Boston Scientific is committed to working with physicians and hospital systems to bring forward innovative technologies and science that lead to better outcomes for patients worldwide."

This comes after the company last month reported positive data from Reprise II, a clinical trial assessing the safety and efficacy of its Lotus Valve System.
