Covidien launches Capnostream 20p bedside monitor

Covidien has announced the launch of a new capnography solution that provides enhanced features that will help clinicians identify and address serious health threats more rapidly.

The Capnostream 20p bedside monitor incorporates the company's Microstream technology to offer an integrated and complete picture of oxygenation and ventilation, making it easier to appropriately manage sedation levels and ensure safe administration of opioids for pain management.

It also features the Apnoea-Sat Alert algorithm, which measures and reports recurring incidents of apnoea and oxygen desaturation events, which can provide clinicians with early warning of cardiopulmonary complications.

Dr Scott Kelley, chief medical officer for respiratory and monitoring solutions at Covidien, said: "The Capnostream 20p bedside monitor will help increase apnoea detection rates and represents an important advancement in continuous patient monitoring that we believe will help save lives."

This comes after the company launched two new advanced energy devices – the LigaSure Impact curved large jaw open sealer/divider LF4318 and LigaSure blunt tip laparoscopic sealer/divider LF1637 – earlier this month.
