Shire appoints new non-executive director

Shire has announced the appointment of Dominic Blakemore as a new non-executive director, effective as of January 1st 2014.

Mr Blakemore is the current group finance director of Compass Group, while prior to this he was chief financial officer at Iglo Foods Group and finance and strategy director of Cadbury. 

Earlier in his career, he spent time working at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where his responsibilities included advising pharmaceutical sector clients, meaning he is well positioned to advise Shire on executing its growth strategy.

Following his appointment, he will serve as a member of the company's audit, compliance and risk committee.

Matthew Emmens, chairman of Shire, said: "The Shire board will benefit from Dominic's strategic and financial experience. We look forward to him joining the board."

His guidance and advice will be of great value to the company's executive committee, which includes chief executive officer Dr Flemming Ornskov, chief financial officer Graham Hetherington and general counsel Tatjana May.
