Merck Millipore provides Energy Month donation to EESI
Merck Millipore has announced the donation of $10,000 (6,300 pounds) to the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI), a not-for-profit organisation advocating for environmentally sustainable societies.
In recognition of Energy Month in October 2013, the company has made this contribution to support EESI's Transportation and Communities Program, which emphasises the importance of energy efficiency and renewable energy across the transportation sector.
This comes after Merck Millipore staff took part in efforts to reduce their carbon footprint by seeking alternative modes of transportation, both at work and at home, throughout Energy Month.
More than a dozen Merck Millipore sites across the globe participated this year, extending the reach of the US-centric Energy Month scheme worldwide.
Johanna Jobin, director of corporate responsibility at Merck Millipore, said: "With transportation contributing to rising greenhouse gas emissions globally, we recognised an opportunity to engage employees by emphasising personal mobility and alternative travel methods during our Energy Month campaign."
This comes after the firm made a $30,000 donation to charity: water to support World Water Week in September 2013.
