Boehringer Ingelheim launches feline kidney disease drug Semintra

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica has announced the launch of a groundbreaking new treatment for cats with chronic kidney disease.

Semintra contains the active ingredient telmisartan and represents the first ever angiotensin receptor blocker to be licensed in veterinary medicine. It is indicated for the reduction of proteinuria associated with the disease.

Thanks to its highly targeted mode of action, it can offer fast and reliable efficacy, excellent tolerability and ease of use benefits, while the fact it is almost exclusively excreted in the faeces means elimination is not dependent on renal function.

It shares all of the traditional advantages of liquid dosing and has been shown to be well accepted by more than 90 percent of cats.

Martha Cannon, a specialist in feline medicine at the Oxford Cat Clinic, said: "From our personal experience, we found that Semintra is very well accepted by cats, with owners finding it very easy to give and to build into their cat's daily treatment plan."

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica was founded in the 1950s and has been operating in the UK since 1980.
