Shire presents Brave Awards to caregivers worldwide

28th November 2013

Shire has announced the winners of the Brave Awards, its annual awards programme that recognises the dedication and selflessness of everyday non-professional carers.

The 2013 programme received 340 nominations from 16 countries, with each nomination reviewed and ranked by a selection committee made up of Shire employees from around the world and two independent caregiving experts.

A total of 18 winners have been announced, including British mother Karen Allen, who looks after an 18-year old daughter with epilepsy. Other winners came from countries such as the US, Canada, Australia and Spain.

Each recipient of a 2013 Brave Award received a grant of $10,000 (6,100 pounds) or the equivalent amount in their local currency. They were selected based on criteria such as respect, courage, dedication, impact on the care recipient and length of service as a caregiver.

Shire has been organising this event every year since 2011, with the aim of highlighting the work done by unsung heroes around the world.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801666145-ADNFCR
