Qiagen launches Therascreen IDH1/2 RGQ Kit in Europe

Qiagen has announced the European launch of its CE Mark-accredited Therascreen IDH1/2 RGQ Kit.

Based on the company's proprietary biomarkers for IDH1 and IDH2 gene mutations, the new test is designed to help medical professionals better diagnose and assess the prognoses of patients with gliomas, which are tumours of the brain and spinal cord.

It enables detection of 12 mutations in the IDH1 and IDH2 genes in a single test using real-time polymerase chain reaction techniques. The assay has been developed in close collaboration with leading clinicians.

Vincent Fert, Qiagen's personalised healthcare programme leader, said: "We are pleased to introduce a standardised, reliable IDH1/2 diagnostic test that improves clinical understanding and treatment of gliomas by genetically characterising each person's disease."

The company also announced a new partnership and licensing options with Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota this week, pertaining to the use of the IDH1 and IDH2 biomarkers to diagnose and guide the treatment of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). 

Mayo Clinic was involved in the creation of the Therascreen IDH1/2 RGQ Kit and will now collaborate on the development of new IDH1/2 products for CCA, a rare form of cancer.
