PerkinElmer launches Opera Phenix screening system
PerkinElmer has announced the launch of a next-generation, confocal, high-content screening system for use in basic research and drug discovery applications.
The Opera Phenix system will help scientists to perform challenging applications with speed and sensitivity, thanks to its ability to discriminate phenotypes of complex cellular models more effectively than ever.
It uses patented Synchony Optics technology to carefully control excitation, eliminating unwanted crosstalk in the sample and resulting in better sensitivity without reducing speed. Its Harmony High Content Imaging and Analysis Software then allows this data to be turned into robust, quantitative results.
PerkinElmer believes the device will help users to learn more about the causes of transformation of normal cells to cancerous cells or the impact of treatments on cancer cells.
Will Kruka, senior vice-president of imaging and detection technologies at PerkinElmer, said: "As the requirement for quantitative data in cellular biology has significantly advanced, scientists are seeking to generate richer data to gain better insights, without compromising sensitivity for speed."
This comes after the firm launched IVIS SpectrumBL, a preclinical high-throughput bioluminescence small animal imaging system, earlier this month.
