Janssen launches new global public health division

Janssen has announced the launch of a new business unit called Janssen Global Public Health, which will be dedicated to addressing the world's greatest unmet public health needs.

The new division will oversee research and development activities and access strategy development for the Johnson and Johnson subsidiary's growing portfolio of transformational medicines for underserved patient populations.

It will align the company's groundbreaking science and innovative access models under a single entity, with the aim of driving better health outcomes, improving quality of life for patients and addressing global treatment challenges.

The business unit's portfolio will include therapies and products such as Sirturo –  the tuberculosis therapy that was recommended for EU approval last month – as well as long-acting rilpivirine, reformulated flubendazole and the dapivirine microbicidal ring.

Dr Paul Stoffels, chief scientific officer of Johnson and Johnson and worldwide chairman of Janssen, said: "To solve today's greatest public health challenges, it's essential that we emphasise the needs of the developing world in equal measure to those of the developed world."
