Novo Nordisk names new biopharmaceuticals head
Novo Nordisk has announced the appointment of Eddie Williams to senior vice-president of biopharmaceuticals, taking responsibility for several key functions.
Mr Williams has been with the firm since 2006 and formerly served as its corporate vice-president of biopharmaceuticals. He moved into his new position with effect from February 1st 2014.
In his previous role, he led the sales and marketing, business development and new product commercialisation functions for the company's US biopharmaceuticals business, which develops medicines for haemophilia and various types of hormone deficiencies.
This comes at a time when Novo Nordisk is seeking to apply the protein expertise developed through its diabetes franchise to help more people with haemophilia and growth disorders.
Jesper Hoiland, president of Novo Nordisk in the US, said: "His promotion to senior vice-president demonstrates the company's focus on and commitment to our pipeline of life-changing biological therapies."
Last month, the company also appointed Dr Todd Hobbs as chief medical officer for its North American operations.
