ALK Abello purchases Bio-Medical Services

ALK Abello has announced the acquisition of Bio-Medical Services, a move that will allow it to expand into the veterinary allergy market for the first time.

Bio-Medical Services is a veterinary reference laboratory that is known for pioneering in vitro serum IgE allergy testing in the animal health industry in 1989, as well as having a proven track record for treating allergic disease for dogs, cats and horses.

The takeover will allow the new ALK Abello subsidiary to expand its ACTT Allergy Management programme, which is dedicated to furthering the commercialisation of veterinary dermatologist and allergen-specific immunotherapy treatments.

This will build upon ALK's proven expertise in the field of allergic disease, in which it has been operating since 1923.

Jose Moreno Toscano, president of ALK Abello, said: "We are excited about welcoming Bio-Medical Services to ALK and the opportunity to expand our knowledge and resources in veterinary allergy."

Earlier this month, the firm announced its financial results for 2013, during which it was able to increase its market share and grow its revenue in Europe.
