Malvern Instruments demonstrates efficacy of new SEC detector

Malvern Instruments has unveiled a new application note detailing its new Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 multi-angle light scattering (MALS) detector for size exclusion chromatography (SEC). 

The device has been designed for use in the analysis of monoclonal antibodies, with the accompanying note detailing analysis of aggregates within antibody formulations.

Increasing numbers of therapeutic applications are beginning to target and make use of these antibodies and effective measuring of the weight of the protein, monomer, oligomers and their aggregates forms an integral parts of assessing their safety and efficacy as potential treatments.

Light scattering techniques ensure the measurement of the absolute molecular weight can take place without any reliance on calibration, which can produce inaccuracies. MALS is an established technology within the industry.
