GE Healthcare invests in Clarient subsidiary’s FISH technologies

GE Healthcare has made an investment in improving the fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) technologies offered by subsidiary business Clarient Diagnostic Services.

These technologies and services are used to improve virtual analysis of testing results for a variety of blood diseases, including leukaemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome and myeloma.

Following these upgrades, Clarient will begin offering a new service known as PATHSiTE Virtual HemeFISH to help pathologists better interpret, diagnose and report on suspected blood cancers and disorders. It will be offered as an integrated component of the web-based case management portal.

This will help clinicians to provide accurate, complete and timely diagnoses in order to treat patients appropriately.

Cindy Collins, chief executive officer of Clarient Diagnostics Services, said: "The new VHF service will help pathologists provide better diagnoses, enhancing the care provided to patients. Simultaneously, we have upgraded all of our leukaemia and lymphoma panels to further improve sensitivity and specificity."

This comes after the firm last month completed its acquisition of API Healthcare, a US-based healthcare workforce management solutions provider.
