Boston Scientific names new board member

Boston Scientific has announced the appointment of medical technology sector veteran Edward Ludwig as the newest member of its board of directors.

Mr Ludwig is the former chief executive officer, president and chairman of BD and currently serves as lead director on Aetna's board, as well as chairing its finance committee. He is also a member of the board of directors at Xylem.

His appointment fills a vacancy that results from the Boston Scientific board's decision to increase its number of directors from 11 to 12. The move came into effect on March 1st 2014.

Pete Nicholas, chairman of the board of Boston Scientific, said: "Ed is an accomplished business leader and brings a wealth of experience and management insight to our board. We look forward to his perspectives and insights and are delighted to welcome him to the board."

This comes after the company appointed David Roux of private equity firm Silver Lake to the board at the start of the year.
