Boehringer Ingelheim enrols 10,000 patients for atrial fibrillation registry

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced the enrolment of the 10,000th patient in its Gloria-AF registry programme.

One of the largest registry programmes currently running worldwide for this disease, the scheme is part of Boehringer Ingelheim's ongoing commitment to optimising stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation, offering important information on everyday clinical practice on antithrombotic prescribing patterns and patient outcomes.

Additionally, it is expected to provide new insights into how antithrombotic therapy can be further optimised to ensure patients receive the best possible protection from potentially disabling or deadly strokes.

Thanks to its innovative three-phase design, it will allow clinicians to collect useful data on the efficacy and safety of Boehringer Ingelheim's anticoagulant Pradaxa versus warfarin, allowing for the assessment of changes in prescribing patterns worldwide.

Programme leader Dr Menno Huisman, professor of medicine at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands, said: "The knowledge that will be gained from Gloria-AF will help physicians to choose the best possible treatment for their patients with atrial fibrillation to ensure effective stroke prevention."

This comes after the Jordan Food and Drug Administration became the 100th regulatory body to approve Pradaxa earlier this month.
