Infection control market to be worth $14bn by 2017

The sterilisation and disinfection infection control market will be worth $14.0 billion by 2017, according to a new report.

The Infection Control Market – Sterilization (ETO Sterilization, E-Beam, Gamma, Steam, Low Temperature, Contract Services) & Disinfection (Endoscope Reprocessing, Disinfectant, Disinfector, Face Mask, Drapes, Surgical Gowns, Wipes) – Global Forecast to 2017 report shows the sector will expand at a steady pace of around six percent from $10.5 billion in 2012.

It outlines the major players in the infection control market as Getinge, Steris, Advanced Sterilization Product, Belimed, Medivators, 3M, Cardinal Health, Kimberly-Clark, Synergy Health, and Sterigenics.

One of the key findings of the report shows the rise in contract sterilisation services – due to stringent requirements from regulatory agencies such as the International Organization for Standardization – will be challenged in the near future by in-house sterilisation.

This will be instigated by the advent of hydrogen gas plasma and vapour hydrogen peroxide, as well as a need for better quality assurance.
