Ferring Pharmaceuticals receives FDA approval for IVF treatment

Ferring Pharmaceuticals has been granted approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for new labeling of its Menopur and Bravelle fertility products. 

Under the new ruling, the two treatments can now be safely combined and administered in a single injection.

Following this decision, Ferring's mixed protocol is the only combination of IVF simulation gonadotropins to have received regulatory approval to be mixed together in one syringe.

Nick Hart, the company's head of reproductive health for the US, said: "We are pleased with the FDA's response and look forward to offering physicians and patients the ability for customization and a simplified treatment protocol."

Ferring's application was supported by results from a pharmacodynamics study which demonstrated the safety and efficacy of the mixed protocol, while also confirming this method does not interfere with the efficient delivery of either medication.

Bravelle is designed to stimulate healthy ovaries to produce eggs, while Menopur is indicated for the development of multiple follicles and pregnancy.
