Novartis names new head of Alcon

10th April 2014

Novartis has announced that Jeff George will be taking over as the new division head of Alcon, its eye-care-focused subsidiary.

Mr George will assume the role on May 1st 2014 and will succeed Kevin Buehler, who is retiring from Alcon after a career with the company that spans three decades. He will provide management and strategic support as part of the transition.

The new Alcon head has been with Novartis since 2007 and moves into his new position having successfully led the group's generics-focused Sandoz brand since December 2008. He will continue to serve as a member of the executive committee of Novartis.

Joseph Jimenez, chief executive officer of Novartis, said: "I want to thank Kevin Buehler for his strong leadership and contributions to Alcon's success over the years, and for leading Alcon through the merger and integration with Novartis."

Novartis purchased Alcon in 2011 as part of a wider effort to expand its position in the eye care and ophthalmology market.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801711485-ADNFCR
