Fresenius Kabi unveils new Lovo cell processing system

Fresenius Kabi has introduced an innovative new cell processing system to attendees of the 2014 International Society for Cellular Therapy annual meeting.

The Lovo system is scheduled to be launched in the US in the second half of this year and is an automated cell-washing device that can be used to remove supernatant from target cells and store them in viable media.

Circumventing the need to manually carry out tasks such as separation, washing, platelet depletion, fluid exchange and concentration of living cells, the system is optimised for quality, consistency and speed.

The manufacturer intends to market Lovo to academic medical centres, biotechnology companies, blood centres and facilities that process cells for clinical trials.

William Cork, executive vice-president and chief technology officer for medical devices at Fresenius Kabi, said: "Fresenius Kabi will continue to test and evaluate the use of the Lovo across a variety of cell therapy applications and generate data this year on the operation, performance and usability of the device."
